How They Met
Hana and Kyle met at a going-away party for a mutual friend of theirs, Rob, who ended up being one of their groomsmen. It was at a bar downtown Toronto called the “Loose Moose” on Halloween night, 2015. The group was large, but the pair could not stop talking to one another. Even with their instant connection, they hadn’t exchanged numbers by the end of the night, is was Hana who reached out to Rob for Kyle’s number. They exchanged texts, made plans to meet, and the rest was history.
After dating, Kyle decided it was time to propose and wanted it to be a surprise! “I surprised Hana when she got home from work on a Tuesday evening.” He had decorated the hallway leading to their spare room with rose petals and candles along with pictures of the happy couple through the years hung on twine. “In the room, I was on one knee, only lit by string lights holding a candy Ring Pop” Kyle had opted for a Ring Pop, not for the novelty, but because he knew that Hana would want to pick out her own ring. Our whole team agrees this is an excellent decision, Kyle! “I was originally planning on waiting… but after asking her parents for their blessing that morning, I was way too excited to wait.”
“We’ve both attended several weddings, so we wanted to make it as enjoyable as possible for not only us but our guests too!” Hana told us, regarding what the couple wanted most from their big day. A big decision and one of the best for them was “choosing to do our first look and photos before the ceremony. Seeing each other ahead of time and without the pressure of a crowd watching, made the majority of our nerves disappear. With photos done beforehand when hair and makeup were fresh, we were all able to enjoy part of the cocktail hour, and our guests easily transitioned from the ceremony to the reception.”
Their Big Day
Their wedding was photographed by the talented Alexandra Jakubowska Wedding Photography and she made sure to capture all the special moments. When it came time for Hana to walk down the aisle, she managed to keep the nerves in right up until the moment she had to go down the aisle. “It went by so fast, but I remember being scared that I would fall because the aisle was plush carpet and I had only practised on hard flooring! It was very hard not to look at the ground, but it was comforting seeing Kyle at the front and having my parents by my side.”
And for Kyle, watching Hana walk towards him? “It was awesome! We had already done a first look beforehand, but she was still as shockingly beautiful as the first time I saw her. I was pretty nervous standing up at the front but seeing my soon-to-be-wife calmed me right down.”
Unique to Them
Something uniquely them on their big day, and that they got a lot of positive feedback on was for having the Game of Thrones theme song played during their wedding licence signing.
The flowers, paper flowers made from pages of Harry Potter, were also quite special. Hana had learned how to make them on Pinterest and started six months before her big day. She had wanted books to be subtly included in the décor and found this was the perfect way.
Advice for Couples
From their own experience, one of the most important things for other couples to do for their own wedding day is a rehearsal! They also recommend making sure your wedding day isn’t too hectic and jam-packed. As Hana told us, “It already goes by so fast, and you’ll want to enjoy every moment. Going into it, we knew that we wouldn’t have a chance to talk to every single guest. We made an effort to visit each table briefly but didn’t stress about it.”
