Their Story

How They Met

Jennifer and Christopher met at a mutual friend’s party, with Christopher delivering the cheesiest poker pick up line possible. “I had no clue what it meant!” Jennifer told us, though it seems to have worked because the couple ended up going on their first date, an evening that started off at the Eaton Centre and took them all the way through a Tim’s visit, a movie (where they fought for the armrest), and ended with dinner at a Toronto pub.

Engagement!

They got engaged on December 11, 2016. The couple had a reservation at the CN Tower’s 360 restaurant. In the end though, while walking to the restaurant “in a terrible snow blizzard while I was wearing heels,” Jennifer said, Christopher took her through Osgoode Park. They stopped underneath a lamppost, on a path they often enjoyed walking together, and Christopher got out the ring box. “He was so nervous and cold trying to open the ring box,” Jennifer recalled warmly, “that [the box] wouldn’t open properly, he finally got the box open though and he proposed to me there.” Jennifer got to say “yes” to her best friend.

Planning

When it got down to planning their wedding, the most important thing for Jennifer and Christopher was to be true to themselves. They had a unique vision for their wedding, that reflected them, and their goal was to plan and execute their big day in the way they envisioned it. “We know who we are together as a couple,” explained Jennifer, “we know what we like and what we want.” A word to other couples, Jennifer said, “There are going to be lots of people around you who have different taste and different opinions and it is okay to listen to them, but if it is not what you want or it is not the way you say it, it is okay to say no to people.” It’s your day, and you will be remembering it forever, so make it yours.

Their Big Day

For Jennifer, walking down the aisle was not as nerve-wracking as she thought it would be. The nerves she had beforehand all melted away as soon as she saw Christopher waiting for her at the altar. “He always has this smile that I love so much,” Jennifer told us, “I forgot everyone that was watching me walk down the aisle with my father.” It was just her and Christopher.

Christopher has to agree, “It was ridiculous. Such a great moment in my life was happening before my eyes… All my hopes, wishes and dreams were one step closer with every beautiful step of my wife to be. I just couldn’t wait for her to be with me. I will always be able to feel that moment in my heart and carry it with me where ever I go.”

The Details

Something special about their wedding was the season, the couple has always loved the fall and so they knew they had to have a fall wedding. “The leaves were changing and everything was so perfect,” Jennifer explained, “It was also very important to me to have photos of my family dog Tito, he’s been with us for 14 years, and we were both so happy that he made it for our wedding, he’s still with us today!”

Their Favourite Parts

As for their favourite part of the wedding? The first dance. The couple took six sessions of dance classes so that they could nail their ballroom dance. To tie everything into the fall feel, they chose a jazzy ballroom song, L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole, which was unique to them.

Advice for Couples

Jennifer’s advice to couples on their big day? “Have fun with it, don’t stress. Just make it your own, be genuine, and make it memorable. The rest will fall in place!”
