How They Met
Jeff met Lindsay within a few months of starting high school. Jeff happened to be in a relationship at the time, so the pair started off as friends. During their first year at high school, however, they volunteered together and their families went on the same March break vacation to Mount Tremblant. By April 6th (their later wedding day!) of their freshman year we were a couple!
The couple had a Christmas advent calendar where you fill each day up with your own chocolates. Inside, Jeff had planted a surprise! Lindsay told us, “It was Sunday morning on December 3rd and Jeff and I were still in our PJs eating a pancake breakfast. When I went to go take the chocolates out of the advent calendar I noticed something unusual and ended up pulling out a diamond ring! The next thing I knew Jeff was down on one knee.”
Throughout the planning process, the most important aspect of Jeff & Lindsay’s big day was to have it be a reflection of themselves. “We wanted everything from the music, the venues, the guest book, the food, to our outfits, to embody who we are,” Lindsay explained, “The day would be special to us and we would have fun. We just wanted to do us.”
Unlike many couples, one thing they decided to focus on was creating a wedding day schedule that would allow them to spend as much time together as possible. “To achieve this we decided to have an earlier ceremony at 1:00 pm,” Lindsay told us. The couple then followed with an intimate celebration that only included their bridal party and parents before joining guests for cocktail hour.
Music was a big focus as well at our wedding. We really valued putting time into creating playlists with our DJ. We spent a good amount of time sorting through genres and songs to create three separate playlists: cocktail hour, dinner and late night. Each playlist was built to create an upbeat, classy and modern atmosphere. The music was loud enough that it played a big role throughout the entire reception.
Their Big Day
Their wedding was photographed by the talented Amamda Thirkill Photography and she captured every moment beautifully. When it came time for Lindsay to walk down the aisle, she found herself extremely nervous. “I couldn’t focus on who to make eye contact with. When I finally made my way to Jeff I just focused on holding his hands and looking at him.”
Jeff on the other hand found the experience surreal. “It was something I’d been imagining in my head for months. I felt a big mix of happiness and nervousness.”
Unique to Them
The couple had something special to walk down the aisle to, Lindsay telling us, “We walked down the aisle to songs from one of our favourite artists we discovered together in high school – Jonsi. Walking down the aisle to him made the ceremony feel like it was a piece of our relationship adding so much more emotion to the ceremony!”
The reception was unique, with vibrant, multi coloured flowers, upbeat and classy music creating an exciting and social environment, and chocolate bar party favours along with a decadent chocolate mousse dessert cake.
Advice for Couples
We asked Lindsay and Jeff what advice they would have for other couples getting married and they said, “Décor isn’t everything. If you fall in love with a venue which can help save money. We focused on creating a fun and upbeat atmosphere so that no one would even think about what décor was on the tables.” They also added, “Listen to each other and just do what you want!”
